It may still be two weeks till the 11th edition of Nigeria’s biggest and most respected music awards show, the Hip Hop World Awards, also known as the Headies, but one of the co-hosts is already the biggest winner.
The Headies will be holding at the Eko Convention Centre on December 22 and will be co-hosted by actress Adesua Etomi as well as rapper and comic act Falz.
It has already been a successful year for Falz. Only in March, he won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for his role in Funke Akindele’s TV series Jenifa’s Diary.
Then in June, he won the award for the Viewer’s Choice Best New International Act at the BET Awards in Los Angeles.
And this October, he and singer Simi released their well received collaborative EP Chemistry.
To cap off the great year of the son of the respected lawyer, Femi Falana, Falz grabbed the highest number of nominations (six) for the 2016 Headies, when the list was announced in November.
He was nominated for Best Music Video and Best Collabo for ‘Soldier’ with Simi, Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for Stories That Touch, Best Street-Hop Artiste for ‘Bad Gang’ with Ajebutter, and Artiste of the Year.
But Falz wasn’t done winning. Only a few weeks after the nominees list was released, he was announced as one of the co-hosts of the award show.
Like in previous editions of the Headies, there promises to be a lot of drama, on and off stage.
He may not win in all the categories he is nominated for, but what is clear now is that Falz is already the biggest winner at the show.
