Work has commenced at two Dams that are located at Heipang, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. Activities resumed at the sites after a decade of work stoppage by the Federal Government.
For over a decade, work was suspended by the Federal Government at the Dams. The resumption of work is as a result of lobby efforts undertaken by the Plateau State Government under the leadership of Governor Simon Bako Lalong and consequently the projects were eventually captured among other 30 projects embarked by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for priority funding from over 100 abandoned projects in the country with the scheduled completion of these two projects slated for 2018.
Other works scheduled for completion in 2018 are the complementary distribution network being embarked upon by the Plateau State Government via Public Private Partnership (PPP), the 40,000cum Mangu Water Supply and Irrigation Scheme for Mangu, Gindiri, Mangu-Halle, Panyam, Pushit and environs, and the Yakubu Gowon Airport Water Supply and Irrigation Scheme for Yakubu Gowon Airport, Inland Container Depot, Plateau State Polytechnic, Heipang Town and environs will soon start bearing tangible fruits.
