Former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation and national chairmanship hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, President Bola Tinubu, for alleged confusion and mismanagement after the last presidential election, which he claims they rigged to win.
Speaking at the sidelines of the PDP’s end-of-the-year party in Ogun State on Saturday, Showunmi blamed the APC for the country’s current hardships, stating, “The APC have manipulated, and they are now confused. Everything is not working. Life is now really unbearable.”
He highlighted the high cost of living, inflation, and security challenges as indications of the government’s failure, adding, “They have compacted themselves in a party of poverty, a party where they only go for condolences, a focus-less and directionless group.”
Addressing allegations against the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the last election, Ladi Adebutu, Showunmi accused the APC of attempting to intimidate the opposition.
He affirmed the PDP’s resilience, stating, “We are not the kind of people that can be bullied or cowed.”
Showunmi also expressed his ambition to contest the position of the national chairmanship of the PDP, emphasizing the need for a paradigm shift within the party.
He stated, “A political party that is 25 years old must review itself in a way that it can recalibrate, right its wrongs and bring together a set of new opinions that will make it different from all other parties.”
He concluded by emphasizing his commitment to running an insightful tenure if elected, emphasizing the importance of passion, capability, tenacity, wisdom, and competence in leading the party.
This report is based on remarks made by Segun Showunmi at the PDP’s end-of-the-year party in Ogun State, where he criticized the APC’s leadership and outlined his vision for the PDP’s future.
