The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sulaimon Lasun has explained that, contrary to general conceptions, lawmakers do not receive funds for projects located in their constituencies.
Lasun said this on Monday while receiving the Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in his office in Abuja.
“We don’t get cash for any constituency project. Once a lawmaker suggests a project, the execution of such projects is the prerogative of the Executive branch,” he said.
Speaking further, the lawmaker lamented that most industries located in the South West region of the country are in bad states. He therefore stressed the need for the revival of such industries for employment generation.
President General of the group, Mr. Toye Oguntuyi congratulated Lasun on his election and urged him to properly represent the interests of the Yorubas.
