The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared Chief Tony Okocha as the recognized leader of the party in Rivers State.
Ganduje stated that the party’s national secretariat acknowledges the state executive committee led by Okocha, a close ally of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, as the legitimate leadership structure of the APC in Rivers State.
The APC chairman made this announcement on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of the newly elected state executive committee of the party.
Addressing the gathering, Ganduje congratulated the newly elected members and explained the significance of holding the inauguration in Rivers State instead of the APC National Headquarters in Abuja.
He noted that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening ties between its national and state structures.
He urged the state executive committee to uphold internal democracy, describing it as a fundamental responsibility.
Ganduje also emphasized the need for unity and inclusiveness to ensure the party’s growth and stability at the state level.
Reflecting on the APC’s achievements in the South-South region, traditionally a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ganduje highlighted the party’s successes in Cross River and Edo states.
He added that Rivers State is a strategic focus as the APC continues its expansion efforts in the region.
