Former Nigerian military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, has spoken about his service to Nigeria, stating that history will judge him for his contributions to the nation.
He emphasized that he served to the best of his ability and regarded his understanding of the country and his ability to build friendships across various sectors as his greatest achievements.
Addressing journalists at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State, Babangida acknowledged using coercion and dialogue as leadership styles during his tenure.
When asked about his achievements, he remarked, “Number one is that I served the country the best I could. It may not be to your satisfaction but to the best that I could; I leave that to history to judge.”
The former Head of State highlighted his amicable relationship with the Nigerian people and his extensive travels within the country as factors that enriched his understanding of the nation.
IBB also emphasized the importance of young Nigerians gaining a deep understanding of the country, as they are the future leaders.
Babangida encouraged the youth to study and comprehend Nigeria, stating that such knowledge would prepare them for future leadership roles.
He likened leadership to a style that requires individuals to lead by providing solutions to problems and addressing the concerns of the people.
