Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu has condemned Wednesday’s bomb blast that rocked the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, where 10 people were feared dead.
According to a statement by his Press Secretary, Israel Ebije, the governor urged the people of Kontagora and other parts of the state to remain calm, assuring them that a full scale investigation has commenced on the incident.
Governor Aliyu however said only the female suicide bomber was killed in the blast.
He called on the people of the state to be vigilant and alert security operatives once they notice strange faces in their communities.
He said that the government had already doubled security in all the schools and set up teams to ensure continuous screening of people in school environments to prevent evil perpetrators from infiltrating.
Students affected by the blast, according to the governor, were being treated for injuries sustained.
Over 50 students have been killed on Monday when a suicide bomber attacked a school in Potiskum, Yobe State. The suicide bomber was said to have dressed in the uniform of the school attacked.
The recent attacks may lay credence to reports by the military that Islamist sect Boko Haram was using child soldiers and women as human shield and as suicide bombers as the terrorists seek to expand its territorial gain in Nigeria’s north.
