GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi has condemned the suspension of the governor Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Malam Sanusi Lamido, saying that the action was unconstitutional.
.
Amaechi who spoke Sunday at Christ Church, Port Harcourt said the President lacked the powers to suspend a CBN governor.
.
“You can imagine how President Jonathan announced the sudden removal (suspension) of the CBN Governor.
.
He does not have such powers. He knows that nothing will happen that was why he took that action. So, I think the preachers should begin to preach what we called the liberation theology. You (church leaders) are supposed to have more responsibilities to hold government accountable.” Amaechi said.
.
While urging the church to pray against acts of impunity and corruption in the country the governor also lamented the alleged missing 49.8 billion dollars from the federation account.
.
Continuing he enjoined the church to insist on accountability from the nation’s political leaders, stressing that it was a duty expected from Christians and religious leaders in the country.
