Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to hand over all facilities at the Nazari Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko Local Government Area to leaders of Fulani herdsmen.
This directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, and shared with newsmen.
Governor Buni explained that the handover was necessary as the multi-billion-naira project is now ready for occupation and utilization.
He noted that the reserve, developed in partnership with the Federal Government, represents a significant investment aimed at supporting the livestock sector.
“Our administration, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has invested billions of naira in the construction of the reserve, which is the second-largest livestock development centre in sub-Saharan Africa,” Buni stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging the grazing reserve for socio-economic development and enhancing livestock production in the state.
“The construction of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre is part of a deliberate policy to settle herders in one location, allowing them to focus on their grazing activities and enroll their children in school,” the statement added.
The facilities at the reserve include a milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, a primary school for nomadic children, and a feed mill centre.
Other amenities include an artificial insemination centre, a breed improvement centre, warehouses, and aquaculture ponds, all designed to boost livestock production and improve livelihoods.
