Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed his satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2023 governorship election dispute.
The Supreme Court’s decision overturned the earlier ruling by the Appeal Court, which had nullified Governor Yusuf’s election.
The Appeal Court had ruled that the governor, who ran under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was not a member of the party during the election.
However, the Supreme Court’s verdict reinstated Governor Yusuf, affirming his legitimacy as the duly elected governor.
In his reaction to the verdict, Governor Yusuf expressed his delight, stating that he feels vindicated now that the legal challenges to his victory have been resolved.
Addressing reporters in Kano, Governor Yusuf said, “I am extremely pleased with the Supreme Court’s verdict today, January 12, 2024.
The court has confirmed the legality of my election. The issue of alleged illegal ballot papers has been put to rest, as the Supreme Court justices have affirmed the legitimacy of the election process.”
He added, “I feel justified and relieved that this matter has been resolved with the court’s affirmation of the legality of the election.
The people were aware of the facts, and now the Supreme Court has upheld the truth.”
