Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has issued a stern warning to members of the “Legacy Group,” a faction within the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), threatening to take decisive action if they continue to sow division within the party.
During the inauguration of a 363-member Governorship Campaign Council in Benin City, Governor Obaseki expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to win the September 21 governorship election, stating that the party has the necessary structures and programs in place for victory.
Accusing the Legacy Group faction of accepting money from the opposition to destabilize the party, Governor Obaseki described them as disorganized and lacking leadership.
He warned them to desist from their actions or face consequences, emphasizing the unity of the PDP.
Governor Obaseki emphasized that the campaign would focus on the party’s achievements and its vision for the future, stating that the opposition party has no place in Edo politics.
The State Chairman of the PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, announced that the campaign council comprises 363 members and urged them to campaign vigorously across the state.
He reiterated that Edo is a PDP stronghold.
In his acceptance speech, the Director-General of the campaign council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to lead the party to victory.
PDP governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo thanked party members for their confidence and promised to build on Governor Obaseki’s foundation if elected.
