The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of plotting to rig tomorrow’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
“The APC has been using Rivers State resources to defeat the will of the people of the state. They have been hiring and arming hardened criminals to be used against the will of Rivers people during the elections. They have also been recruiting misguided youths in the state to cause aggravated havoc in different parts of the state so that elections will not hold in Rivers State until Gen Mohammadu Buhari is sworn in as President on May 29, 2015,” Emma Okah, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the party, said in a statement.
“With an APC President on seat, the party hopes to have all the powers to rig elections with brazenness. The second leg of the rigging strategy is the reason we are calling the attention of Rivers people and Nigerians to the plot. To the governor and the APC, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, must be compromised at all cost. The APC is trying to compromise INEC officials at various levels with a view to compromising them in the conduct of the elections in Rivers State.
“On Wednesday, the governor met with 10 Electoral Officers, Eos, who are in charge of conducting elections in 10 local government areas in the state. At the meeting, they agreed that they will exchange the authentic result sheets with the ones prepared by the APC. Thereafter, the EOs will tomorrow declare the results contained in the fake result sheets prepared by the party.
“Some of the local government EOs affected are: Ogu/Bolo, Tai, Degema, Ahoada East, Ahoada West Local Government Areas. This is in addition to several threats to cause violence and wreak havoc on the people of the state either before or during the elections. To them, holding elections in the future after Gen. Buhari would have been sworn in as President will give them the opportunity to hide under the federal might to rig and manipulate elections,” the statement read.
