Jos Luhukay became the fifth coach to be sacked in the Bundesliga this season when he was dismissed by Hertha Berlin, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The 51-year-old was shown the door after Hertha’s 1-0 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday left them second from bottom of the German league.
.
“We had a long night, we analysed everything and decided to part company with our team of coaches. We need a new impulse,” said Hertha’s sports director Michael Preetz.
.
The loss to Leverkusen was Berlin’s third straight defeat and Hertha are bidding to avoid their third relegation from Germany’s top flight since 2010.
.
Preetz was in his current role for both of their relegations in 2010 and 2012.
.
Berlin are away to Mainz on Saturday with former player Pal Dardai and ex-assistant coach Rainer Widmayer in charge of the side.
.
Luhukay is the fifth German league coach to be dismissed this campaign after Bremen dismissed Robin Dutt, Mirko Slomka (Hamburg, Jens Keller (Schalke) and Armin Veh (Stuttgart).
.
The Dutchman arrived at Hertha in July 2012 after spells with Augsberg and Borussia Monchengladbach.
