The Ogun State Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of a hunter, identified as Femi, who was found with bullet wounds in a forest near Ijebu Igbo.
Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, stated that Femi, a resident of Ofemodoko village, went hunting on Friday with a companion named Taoreed, popularly known as Kokoro, but failed to return home.
According to Odutola, Femi’s wife, Grace James, raised the alarm after her husband’s prolonged absence. She reported the incident to the village head, who organized a search party to locate him.
“On October 26, 2024, Grace James, a resident of Ofemodoko, informed the police that her husband went hunting on October 25 at around 5:00 p.m. with one Taoreed, also known as Kokoro, but did not return,” Odutola said.
She added: “At around 7:00 a.m. the following day, the village head mobilized local hunters for a search.
During the search, Femi’s body was found in the forest with bullet wounds on his back, and his hunting rifle was discovered lying beside him.”
The police spokesperson revealed that Femi’s body was taken to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Taoreed, who accompanied Femi on the hunting trip, has fled the village with his wife and children. Odutola confirmed that the police are continuing their investigation into the case.
