Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, not Mkhitaryan has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August, while Huddersfield Town’s David Wagner clinched the manager’s award.
Sadio Mane had never won the award before but has finally been recognised after scoring three goals in three games for Liverpool — making him the Premier League’s joint-top scorer this season alongside Romelu Lukaku.
“I want to say thanks to all of my teammates because without them I am nothing,” Mane said. “I am happy with my start to the season. Everyone loves to score goals for their team, and it gives me more confidence.”
Wagner won the Manager of the Month award after leading Huddersfield to an unbeaten start in both his and the club’s first Premier League season.
“It’s an honour for me but I’d like to take this award for the whole club, especially my players,” Wagner said. “I’d hoped that we would start well but I didn’t expect it! It’s only the start and now we need to be focused for the next one.”
