Eric Bailly has thanked Jose Mourinho for giving him the chance to play at Manchester United, despite differences between the pair at Old Trafford.
Bailly was Mourinho’s first signing as United manager, joining for £30m in 2016, but a mixture of injuries and tactical decisions has seen him struggle to maintain a regular spot in the starting XI.
This season, Bailly was out of the first team picture for nine games after being substituted 19 minutes into the 3-2 comeback win over Newcastle.
But Bailly, who started Mourinho’s final game at Liverpool before he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has put those differences behind him to record a classy message to Mourinho.
He said: “Whatever they may say, I will always be thankful to the person who gave me the chance to make my debut at Old Trafford.
“Thank you for what you have taught me. Good luck, coach.”
His message comes after Jesse Lingard became the first United player to comment on the managerial change at Old Trafford since Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday morning.
Lingard said: “Thank you for the wisdom.”
