According to the Labour Party (LP), if President Bola Tinubu is dismissed from office by the court, there won’t be anarchy in Nigeria.
On the basis that he did not receive 25% of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tinubu had urged the presidential election tribunal to reject the challenge filed by LP trying to overturn his victory in the general elections of 2023.
In a closing written statement to the tribunal, Tinubu asserted that the FCT is the 37th state for election reasons through his attorney, Wole Olanipekun.
Any other reading, in the president’s words, “would lead to absurdity, chaos, anarchy, and a change of the very intention of the legislature.”
However, in response to this, the LP said that Tinubu’s comments were superfluous because the matter was already before the court in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh.
“We insist that no threat made by the APC against the tribunal judges would be able to affect the procedures and conditions set forth by the legislation. The Labour Party has the opinion that it must be adhered to.
In part, Ifoh’s message stated, “Let me assure the APC and their leaders that if there was no absurdity, chaos, and anarchy when they forced their way into power, Nigeria will still witness peace when they are ultimately evicted.”
