Ijebu Ode Central’s Lions Club has honoured Senator Buruji Kashamu, the lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly with an award in recognition of his philanthropic and humanitarian services to mankind.
According to the organisers, the award is for individuals who have shown philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation and uncommon passion for public good.
Presenting the award to the Ogun State Coordinator of Omoilu Foundation, Mr. Leke Shittu, who represented the lawmaker at the event on Saturday, President of the Club, Lion Aina Abeeb said the lawmaker was recognised because of his invaluable contribution to humanity in the zone and across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State . He said the lawmaker has positively impacted the lives of the people in Ogun State, South West and Nigeria through the Omoilu Foundation.
“We are glad to present this award to Senator Kashamu for his immense support to the cause of the downtrodden; he has sacrificed a lot for the masses.
“We need more of Senator Kashamu in Nigeria. The government and humanitarian organisations like ours cannot do it alone. We need well-meaning Nigerians to support us in the fight against poverty. We need them to help drive humanitarian and community services in Nigeria and we are happy that helping people live a meaningful life seems to be Senator Kashamu’s calling,” he said.
On receiving the award, an elated Shittu, who said the Senator asked him to dedicate the award to the masses, described it as a “special one” from a reputable humanitarian organisation like the Lions Club.
He thanked the Club for the honour and assured them of Senator Kashamu’s support.
