SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwired – Jan 6, 2015) – Imgur, the Internet’s visual storytelling community, today announced that its founder and CEO Alan Schaaf was named to the 2015 Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in the Consumer Technology category. The list is made up of the most promising disruptors, innovators and entrepreneurs 30 years old and younger, in 20 different fields of business.
Schaaf famously started Imgur for only $7 in 2009 from his dorm room at Ohio University to solve the problem of unscalable image sharing on the Internet. As the sole developer for three years, he independently bootstrapped Imgur to an Internet destination generating over 1 billion page views per month.
Six years later, Imgur has been ingrained into Internet pop culture as one of the most popular visual storytelling communities on the web. Millions of people visit Imgur every day to explore, share and discuss billions of images, curating them through votes and comments into a continuously updated stream of the best visual stories the Internet has to offer. Imgur is ranked among the top 100 sites in the United States by Comscore, and raised $40M in funding from Andreessen Horowitz in April of 2014, its first round of outside capital.
Honorees were admitted to the list by a panel of expert judges in their respective fields including Steve Ballmer, Daniel Ek, Tommy Hilfiger, Susan Wojcicki, among others. Additional 2015 honorees include: Palmer Lucky, Blake Lively, James Harden, Michelle Phan, Sam Altman, and more.
Coinciding with the release of this year’s list, Schaaf will participate in a group of panels co-hosted by Forbes and Medialink at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV Jan. 6th – Jan. 9th. Panel themes will include serial entrepreneurship, fearlessness, and meritocracy, and will be moderated by Forbes Editor, Randall Lane.
