The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is worried about the escalating incidents of insecurity in the lead-up to the governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states, scheduled for November 11.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, issued a statement urging political parties and their candidates to refrain from any behavior or statements that could inflame the political climate.
He said the committee was worried about violence between supporters of different political parties and candidates ahead of the next elections.
To ensure the peaceful conduct of elections in the three states, the commission has issued an appeal to all political parties and candidates to refrain from statements and actions that could inflame the political climate.
