The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Sunday said he will choose his running mate this week in compliance with the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
INEC had shifted the deadline for the submission of political candidates’ list for governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections from December 25, to December 26, 2014.
Addressing APC candidates in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, El-Rufai said “the process of choosing running mate is ongoing and with direct involvement of all members of our party and stakeholders. We are not looking for a running mate like PDP spare tyre”.
The governorship candidate pointed out the qualities he was seeking in a running mate. “We are looking for a deputy that can take serious responsibility of governance and base on our experience, we need a sound running mate. The issue of a running mate is a serious and rigorous exercise towards rebuilding our state for peace and cogent development”, he said.
While stating that deputy governors should be engine rooms of development, Mr. El-Rufai added that “everything about governance must be redefined and taken serious, and so, our party is taking this matter serious and we are working hard.
“We are still working and all of you should contribute from ward level to the state level. We are looking for a very significant and competent person from Southern Kaduna and we are praying to Almighty God to show us the right way. Please endeavour to participate in this process”.
The Kaduna APC chairman, Bala Bantex, in his remarks said “We have vowed that there will be no imposition in APC and you have seen it all. We had a successful governorship primaries that was transparent and without a single petition.
“With this we are on our way to victory, no more rigging of election in Southern Kaduna and no more sharing and buying of votes in Southern Kaduna. It is a new trend and a new dawn and with God we are coasting to victory”.
