Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State revealed on Monday that he could not sleep for 16 days following the abduction of 137 schoolchildren from the Kuriga area of the state.
He made this known after the military handed over the pupils to the state government at the Kaduna State Government House.
Sani promised to prioritize the protection of lives and properties across the state, stating, “The reason why we are here is the protection of lives and properties. Kaduna state government will continue to prioritize security.
We had 16 days of sleepless nights, and the Kaduna State government will continue to work with the relevant security agencies to ensure that all our local governments are safe.”
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and the security agencies in the state for their efforts.
Sani also cautioned the media against attempting to uncover the story behind how the students were rescued from captivity.
The abduction occurred on March 7, 2024, when bandits kidnapped the schoolchildren from the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The Nigerian Military later rescued the pupils from Zamfara State, where their captors had taken them.
Despite rumors of ransom payments for the release of the pupils, Sani dismissed such claims.
