The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully detained two cattle rustlers, two notorious gunrunners, and three kidnapping suspects in a series of coordinated operations.
This significant breakthrough was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement released on Sunday in Kaduna.
According to the statement, on Thursday, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, launched a targeted raid on a hideout notorious for harbouring criminals involved in cattle rustling.
The operation took place in the Kasuwa Magani area of Kujama, Kaduna State, where a well-organised syndicate had been preying on local farmers, stealing their livestock and causing widespread distress within the community.
During the raid, the police successfully apprehended two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Aminu Saleh and 24-year-old Jafar Ibrahim.
Both individuals were taken into custody after the operatives managed to penetrate the hideout without alerting the remaining members of the syndicate.
During their interrogation, Saleh and Ibrahim confessed to their involvement in the cattle rustling operations.
They also disclosed that they were part of a larger group, consisting of four additional members who remain at large. The police are currently intensifying efforts to track down these remaining suspects.
On the same day, Thursday, the Kaduna State Police Command was alerted to a potential kidnapping when one Shafiu Abdullahi reported a series of threatening phone calls.
The callers demanded a ransom of N10 million, threatening to kidnap Abdullahi if their demands were not met. Responding with urgency, the Command’s Tracking and Response Team employed advanced tracking techniques to trace the origin of the calls and quickly identify the suspects.
This swift response led to the arrest of three individuals: Umar Baso, Shehu Filani, and Babangida Abdulkarim, all of whom are residents of the Soba and Kajuru Local Government Areas in Kaduna State.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to their roles in the extortion scheme, detailing the methods they employed to intimidate their victim and demand the ransom.
Their confession has provided crucial information that the police are using to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Further demonstrating their commitment to eradicating crime in the region, the Kaduna State Police Command carried out another successful operation on Saturday.
This operation targeted the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to criminal groups operating within Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara States.
The arrest of two suspects has significantly disrupted the flow of weapons to these dangerous groups.
The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Dahiru Liman from Garin Kurama village in Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State, and 45-year-old Sani Abdullahi Makeri from Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State, were apprehended in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
During their interrogation, both Liman and Makeri confessed to their involvement in the illegal arms trade, revealing that they had been supplying weapons to kidnappers and other criminal elements for an extended period.
Their arrest is a significant blow to the criminal networks operating across these states.
In light of these successes, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr Audu Dabigi, has urged the public to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious activities.
He emphasized that maintaining security is a collective responsibility, and the cooperation of the community is essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
Mr Dabigi commended the efforts of the police operatives involved in these operations, reiterating the Command’s commitment to continuing its fight against crime and ensuring that justice is served.
The recent arrests and the disruption of these criminal activities highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in Kaduna State.
However, they also underscore the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts and the importance of community support in combating crime.
The Kaduna State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to protect lives and property, and to restore peace and security to the region.
As investigations continue, the Command has assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Additionally, efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal syndicates, ensuring that they are brought to justice.
The recent achievements by the Kaduna State Police Command serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, intelligence-sharing, and swift action in the ongoing battle against crime in Nigeria.
