Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has established an emergency security committee to tackle security challenges in the state.
The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, will work closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Governor Yusuf stated that members were selected based on merit and expressed confidence in their ability to enhance security and promote peace across the state.

He identified youth idleness and loitering as major contributors to insecurity and reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering young people through various skills acquisition programs to promote self-reliance.
The governor emphasized that his government would not tolerate criminal activities that threaten the lives of innocent residents, stressing the need for decisive action.
In his remarks, Dr. Kofar Mata assured that the committee would work diligently to restore peace and security in Kano.
He added that efforts would be focused on fostering peaceful coexistence and positively influencing the behavior of youths.
Members of the committee include:
- Major-General Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd.) – Commissioner for Internal Security
- Comrade Ibrahim Abdullah Wayya – Commissioner for Information
- AVM Ibrahim Umaru (Rtd.) – Director of Special Duties, Government House
- Alhaji Shehu Muhammad Rabiu – Kano State Vigilante Commander
- Muhammad Sanusi Balarabe
- Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai
The committee also comprises representatives from traditional institutions, religious leaders, the military, police, judiciary, immigration service, and the correctional service.
