The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has presented Certificates of Return to the winners of Saturday’s local government elections.
KANSIEC Chairman, Professor Sani Malumfashi, handed the certificates to the 44 elected council chairmen at a ceremony held on Sunday.
Among the newly elected officials is Sa’adatu Yushau Tudunwada, who made history as the Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government Area (LGA).
Malumfashi described the certificate presentation as the culmination of KANSIEC’s responsibilities.
“The issuance of today’s Certificates of Return marks the conclusion of our mandate, which we have fulfilled diligently and in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the land,” he said.
Speaking with journalists, Tudunwada pledged to govern with fairness and equity, ensuring that all residents, regardless of party affiliation, benefit from her administration.
In a related development, the Chairman of Fagge LGA, Salisu Masu, raised concerns about revenue challenges facing the council.
He emphasized the need to address leakages in revenue collection to improve the council’s finances.
“I will do all I can to block leakages and enhance revenue generation,” Masu said. “Currently, from the reports I’ve received, our Federal Government subvention is insufficient to cover salaries without support from the state government.”
The local government elections were conducted peacefully across the state, with newly elected officials expected to assume office immediately.
