The Kwara State House of Assembly has thrown its support behind Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s decision to rehabilitate the state-owned Kwara Hotels with an allocated sum of over N17 billion.
This resolution was reached during the House’s plenary session on Tuesday in Ilorin.
The House aligned itself with the state government’s choice to award the rehabilitation contract to Craneburg Construction Company, emphasizing the contractor’s competence.
This decision supersedes the previous concession granted to the Crystal Group of Companies.
Furthermore, the House urged the Crystal Group to desist from actions that could discredit the government and mislead the public regarding this matter.
During the session, House Leader Abdulkadir Oba Magaji (Ilorin Central) raised a matter of general public importance, citing Order VII, Rule 40 of the House Rules.
The emphasized the need to review the House’s stance on the earlier approval given for the concession of Kwara Hotels to the Crystal Group of Companies by Harmony Holdings.
Oba highlighted the emergence of critical information regarding the Crystal Group’s incompetence, citing a building collapse at its outlet along Sulu Gambari Road, Ilorin, as a cause for concern.
This incident raised doubts about entrusting such a significant project as the Kwara Hotels rehabilitation to the same company.
In another development, the Joint House Committee on Ethics, Privileges, Judiciary, and the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented a report on a bill to amend the Kwara State Local Government Electoral Law.
The report was laid on the table of the House by the Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Judiciary, Salahu Folabi Ganiyu (Omupo).
Subsequently, the House considered the report at the Committee of Whole. Following the consideration, the clerk of the House was directed to read the bill for the third time.
Upon completion of the third reading, the bill passed its final stage and awaits the production of a clean copy for the governor’s assent.
