The leadership of the Labour Party has rejected a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by a factional group led by Lamidi Apapa, declaring Anderson Uwadiae Asemote and Monday Ojore Mawa as the gubernatorial and Deputy governorship candidates of the party.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiorah Ifoh, the party clarified that the letter did not originate from them.
Ifoh described the authors of the letter as fraudulent individuals seeking recognition.
Ifoh emphasized that all letters or correspondences to INEC should be received with a stamp of acknowledgement, with verification conducted afterward.
The party requested INEC to verify signatories of any future correspondence to prevent impersonation.
He noted that on February 22, the APC and PDP conducted their primaries, while the Labour Party held its primaries the following day, electing Olumide Akpata as its candidate.
Ifoh stressed that there was no other primary election by the Labour Party, and INEC is aware of this fact.
Ifoh concluded by stating that there is no faction in the party and urged Nigerians to ignore any other list or winner, reiterating that Olumide Akpata is the only candidate sponsored by the Labour Party.
