The Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State has issued a stern warning, threatening to declare vacant the seats of lawmakers planning to defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This announcement was made by the Enugu State LP Chairman, Casmir Agbo, in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
The State government is currently controlled by the PDP, which emerged victorious in the March 18 gubernatorial election.
With ongoing political manoeuvrings and reports of some House of Assembly members planning to switch allegiance to the PDP, Agbo emphasized the LP’s awareness of these actions.
“We are aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP. Their seats will be declared vacant,” Agbo stated.
Despite the PDP controlling the leadership of the State legislature, having secured 10 out of the 24 seats according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the LP’s threat underscores the potential repercussions for defection.
