Lagos State Government (LASG) has demonstrated its determination to complete ongoing housing projects with the mobilisation of contractors back to the site in order to reduce the current huge housing deficit in Lagos.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal disclosed this during a two-day tour of ongoing housing estates at Ilubinrin, Lagos Island; Ajara, Badagry and Igando Gardens, Igando, while imploring all contractors on site to double their efforts at getting the housing units ready for allocation and occupation by December 2017.
The Commissioner opined that it would be satisfactory to the government if the generality of residents of Lagos could enjoy one of the dividends of democracy through the provision of accessible and affordable housing to the middle and low-income earners who otherwise might never become home owners.
Lawal said that he was satisfied with some contractors who have been keeping to the schedule of work and enjoined others lagging behind to speed up their efforts to allow government meet the set target for the provision of housing to the citizenry.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Arc Foluso Dipe, therefore, directed all the site engineers and supervisors to ensure that contractors follow the work programme submitted to the Ministry so as to meet government completion target.
