The Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has reported the 2/IC, Ogombo Divisional Police Station in Ajah area of Lagos State to the Police authority and called for immediate disciplinary action against the said lawless Police officers for engaging in unprofessional conduct because of selfish interest.
The report has it that the 2/IC lead the team of Policemen from the Station on the violent attack against the law-abiding citizens living in the Emerald Housing Estate in Ajah area of the State over tenancy matter between one Madam Yusuf, the Co-tenant/Caretaker and her tenant, Favour Idigo.
It was discovered that Favour Idigo tenancy payment ended in March 2021 but instead to pay for another rent of her apartment in the Estate, she started trouble with her Caretaker by threatening her( Madam Yusuf) that she would show her and deal with her that her mother was retired Police officer in the State.
On hearing this threat, the Community led by the Estate Chairman, Mr George Krukrubo, Manager of the Estate, Mr. Ganiyu Maruf and Estate Vice Chairman took upon themselves by trying to settle the matter amicably with them but to their surprise, Favour Idigo turned the matter to be their own by reporting them to Ogombo and Ajiwe Divisional Police Stations by joining the issue with the Estate Chairman and Manager.
The respected Estate leadership later discovered that the woman(Favour Idigo) were not ready to pay for another year renting of her apartment in the Estate but just employing the service of the 2/IC attached to Ogombo Police Station and another woman Police Officer at Ajiwe Police Station.
While the Ajiwe Woman Police officer advised her(Favour) to trend it softly because it was a tenancy matter, but the Ogombo Police Station 2/IC, who happened to be her man friend, just concluded an arrangement to carry out the onslaught against Madam Yusuf and people living in the Estate.
The 2/IC had been using the Police Station without the knowledge of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Station, for tenancy issue which Police was less concerned about but because the matter involved his concubine (Favour Idigo).
The information added that the few Senior Police officers in the State had earlier cautioned the 2/IC on the matter that the Police was less concerned about the issue of tenancy but he turned deaf hear because he wanted to show the people of the Emerald Housing Estate that he is the Police officer that could be deployed to Adamawa, Borno, Kaduna and Yobe to face the bandits and Boko Haram sects.
While intervening in the matter, the human rights Centre through a Petition Letter dated Tuesday 11th of April,2021 and forwarded to Inspector General of Police (IGP), Police Service Commission (PSC), Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Director-General, Directorate of State Security (DSS) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), calling for disciplinary action against the 2/IC, Ogombo Police Station and his men over insubordination and illegal duty.
It alleged that penultimate Monday, the 2/IC led other police officers of the Station with one Mr Mutairu Cole violently attacked the Estate until the Security at the gate resisted them from entering the Estate by force that it was the norms in the Estate for any visitor to call the person they are looking for.
It also alleged the 2/IC and his cohorts of threat to life, physical attack, peculiar insult, common assault, blackmailing, victimization, attempted murder and defamation of character against Madam Yusuf and the people of the Estate.
It added that the Favour Idigo with the support of 2/IC, her man friend, was planning to send Madam Yusuf and leadership of the Estate to an early grave because they told Favour Idigo to park out of the Estate if she could not pay for her rent again instead of disturbing the peace of the Estate.
The Petition which was signed by the CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman and copies (attached below) were made available to InfoStride News on Sunday, described the action of the 2/IC as unprofessional, illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional, urging ” the Police authority not to take the matter with levity hand so as to serve as a deterrent to other lawless Police officers that might have a similar mindset.”
