Lagos State’s Public Procurement Agency has called on the Medical Directors to support the State’s procurement process as part of efforts to help in developing the domestic economy and encourage young entrepreneurs by patronizing them for their various local needs.
The General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Onafowote Fatai Idowu stated this at the monthly Meeting of Medical Directors of all the 26 General Hospitals in Lagos State held at the Lagos Island Maternity, Onikan, Lagos.
He explained that procurement is all about the acquisition of goods and services which must be carried out in a transparent manner; hence the need for them to ensure openness in order to provide a level playing ground for local entrepreneurs to participate and compete in the bidding process.
This process, according to him, will give room for accountability, transparency, competitiveness, professionalism and guarantee integrity as well gain public trust in the public procurement procedure.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary Health Service Commission, Dr. Jemilola Adegoriola Longe enjoined the Medical Directors to familarise themselves with the rules and regulations of procurement in the acquisition of goods and services.
He said that with the advent of procurement Law and regulations, it is now an offense for any Office to arbitrarily violate the rules and regulations that guide the acquisition of public needs. (LASG)
