The N210.21b 2014 budget proposal presented by Governor Ibikunle Amosun to members of the Ogun State House of Assembly last week has been described as a financial instrument capable of consolidating the success recorded in virtually all the sectors of the State’s economy.
Members of the House of Assembly made this declaration during the second reading of a bill on the budget estimate titled HB. No. 42/OG/2013- Year 2014 Appropriation Law.
Leading debate on it at the plenary, the Majority Leader, Hon. Israel Jolaoso, opined that when implemented, the ‘budget of consolidation’ would create room for massive agricultural development, provide affordable housing, health and adequate infrastructural development for the people of the State.
He added that as a statement of intention for the next fiscal year, the budget would sustain the tempo of development in the State and cater for other areas like rural road construction, not comprehensively touched in the current year.
In their various contributions, Honourables Babatunde Edunjobi, Olusola Sonuga, Olufemi Allen-Taylor, Aina Akinpelu, Olakunle Oluomo, Abiodun Akovoyon, Olayiwola Ojodu, and Samuel Solarin lauded Governor Amosun for presenting an all-encompassing budget that touches every aspect of human endeavour, pointing out that it would ensure the completion of road projects across the State.
The lawmakers described it as a realistic budget capable of ensuring full economic and social infrastructural development of the State and called on their colleagues to ensure speedy passage.
Speaking in the same vein, Honourables Job Akintan, John Obafemi, Remmy Hazzan, Bowale Solaja, Joseph Adegbesan and Oludaisi Elemide said the Assembly would ensure its passage after the appraisal of the performance of the 2013 budget.
In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi lauded his colleague lawmakers for the robust debate held on the bill and later charged it to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further actions.
