A former Manchester United striker has given his opinion on the Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo debate. Here is why he picked the Argentine over the Portuguese.
For as long as they have competed on the same stage, Messi and Ronaldo have been compared to one another, and that debate will not end any time soon.
While the Argentine has five Ballons d’Or to his name, the Real Madrid man currently has four, although he has been tipped to win the next one at the end of the year.
Former United forward Teddy Sheringham has now weighed in on the argument as to which player is superior, and he picked Messi, insisting that the Argentine can do crazy things others simply cannot do.
“People always have this conversation of who is the best player in the world, Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, and, for me, it’s Messi,” he told Esquire.
“It is ridiculous the things that he can do. He’s the best of all time for me.
“I didn’t really see Pele play, and Diego Maradona was special, but in my opinion Messi is even better. And, perhaps, has his head screwed on a bit better.”
While Ronaldo won the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles with Los Blancos last season, Messi was excellent for FC Barcelona in terms of goals, scoring 54 times in 52 matches across all competitions.
