The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 39-year-old man, Dolapo Babalola, for the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin, and theft of his motorcycle.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, revealed this in Akure on Sunday, stating that the incident occurred in Ondo town.
According to Odunlami-Omisanya, the arrest followed a complaint received on March 25 regarding the disappearance of a motorcycle, marked KAK 136 VF, along with its rider.
Acting swiftly on the report, detectives apprehended Babalola on the same date.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that Opeyemi Oyelakin, the deceased, was his childhood friend whom he had not seen for a long time until March 14, 2024.
The police spokesperson explained that on March 15, the suspect and one Sikiru Mutiu, also known as S.K., who is currently at large, asked Oyelakin to take them to their farm at Oke-Igbo Area on his motorcycle.
“Once they arrived, Mutiu held Oyelakin from behind while Babalola used a stick and stone to strike him on the head until he died.
They then dragged the corpse to a shallow pit, covered it with leaves, and stole his motorcycle,” the spokesperson quoted the suspect as saying.
