The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has rejected the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation over the country’s current economic challenges.
In a statement responding to the PDP Governors Forum, Idris stated, “The call is nothing but an attempt at distraction by people who should instead be busy supporting the President’s efforts at bringing economic relief to the Nigerian people.”
Idris emphasized that President Tinubu would not resign, pointing out that his administration had provided financial support to all State Governments, regardless of partisan affiliation.
He also highlighted the administration’s efforts in revamping the national economy through infrastructure projects, social welfare programs, and security initiatives.
The minister noted that the APC government had cleared several liabilities left by the PDP government, such as subsidy claims by oil marketers, Paris Club Refunds, and unpaid pensions and salary arrears.
Idris urged the PDP Governors to focus on supporting the President’s agenda rather than seeking distractions, stating, “This is not the time for distraction.
It is time instead for the rolling up of sleeves, to support and complement the hard work of the President and his administration.”
President Tinubu, he added, “is not and will never be overwhelmed by the current challenges the country is facing” and will continue to work towards laying a durable foundation for the emerging Nigeria.
