Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo has recalled the time he was abandoned by his girlfriend before he became successful.
The grass to grace story of Ighalo who grew up in Ajegunle has been well told. The striker grew up playing football in the dirty road of the squalor suburb of Lagos before he became successful.
The Changchun Yatai striker took to his Instagram to recall his journey to success and how his then girlfriend left him.
The 28-year-old striker shared a throwback photo of himself and wrote; “From Ajegunle to the world, I serve a living God, this is me 11 years ago. Those earrings are not earrings; I could not even afford to buy earrings that are tape, plaster.
“I am a testimony, I knew with God everything is possible, I was just holding on to my God, my high school girlfriend left me then because I had nothing to offer her. But I had God and I had a dream.
“Never give up on your Dream, the same God that elevated me shall elevate you, hold on to him and trust his timing.
“I am a testimony, you are a testimony, put God first and it’s all done Amen,” he added.
Ighalo started his career with Julius Berger in Lagos before stints in Lyn Oslo, Udinese, Cesena, Granada and Watford.
The striker has 12 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and has scored three goals.
