The Nigerian Navy has warned its personnel that it will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, mutiny and acts inimical to service laws and operations.
Rear Adm. Obiora Charles-Medani, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Calabar, gave the warning on Saturday at the Third Quarter Eastern Naval Command route march in Calabar.
He said as military men, naval personnel were obliged to be absolutely loyal to the constitution of Nigeria and abide strictly by the provisions stipulated in the Armed Forces Act.
According to him, the present security challenge in some parts of the country calls for serious dedication to duty, discipline and utmost sacrifice by naval personnel.
He said that the objective of the route march was to ensure physical fitness among naval personnel and build a spirit of togetherness in consonance with the Nigerian Navy motto “Onward together”.
“It is only when we are physically fit that we can deploy our strength to carry out our constitutional responsibilities and participate in joint operation with other sister service”, he said.
Represented by Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, the Chief Staff Officer of ENC, Charles-Medani, urged officers and men of the force to be law abiding and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a crime-free country.
He said that so long as “health is wealth” regular exercise was necessary for men of the Nigerian armed forces, adding that “a physically-fit personnel is an asset to the service and the nation.
“I am highly impressed with the turnout and conduct you exhibited throughout the exercise.
“This is a testimony that you are all fit and enthusiastic to face any encounter in the course of your duty”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the route march was taken round major streets of Calabar metropolis. (NAN)
