Newly appointed Education Secretaries for the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State have been advised to make diligence and loyalty to the constituted authority their watchword and distance themselves from any act capable of making them a laughing stock in their new assignment.
warned against involving in acts that could truncate their appointment while discharging their official duties.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola gave the charge at a meeting with the Local Government Education Secretaries in his office.
Dr. Olusola informed them that their appointment was not just a coincidence but was based on their track records of excellence in the discharge of their duties as class teachers in either the Secondary or Primary schools and their outstanding performance in the series of screening exercises that were conducted for them as well.
He stressed that the State government would however not hesitate to show the way out to anyone found wanting in his responsibilities, caught in any act of indiscipline or using his office to extort money from unsuspecting students, teachers or parents under any disguise.
While reminding them of their duties, Dr. Olusola advised them to think on how to improve on areas of their deficiencies, as well as contributing meaningfully in the formulation of policies that could transform the education status in the state in line with the reform policies of the present administration.
According to the Deputy Governor, “The present government expects you to go out there and work assiduously with stakeholders in line with the government education reform agenda to restore the glory of education in Ekiti. Education is our pride; we want to return to the frontline in Nigeria again. That’s where we belong”.
The Deputy Governor assured that induction course would soon be organized for them, adding that the next 2 weeks have been set aside as transition period where they would learn the processes and procedures from their predecessors.
Responding on behalf of the others, Efon Local Government Education Secretary, Mr. Stephen Akosile and his IrepodunIfelodun Local Government counterpart, Mr. Joseph Agunbiade thanked appreciated the State Government for giving them the rare opportunity to serve the state in the capacity of Education Secretaries.
They assured that they would discharge their onerous task with all diligence and sense of responsibility to justify the confidence reposed in them.
