This week, there is a new chart leader in the U.K. in the form of Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson’s “Symphony,” which has snatched the top spot away from Ed Sheeran. The latter’s smash hit “Shape Of You” led the charge for 14 nonconsecutive frames, only stepping aside once to allow Harry Styles’ “Sign Of The Times” to debut at No. 1. This time around, “Shape” is down to No. 2 for the second time since it first appeared on the chart back in January.
Sheeran actually owns the Nos. 2 and 3 positions in his home country this week, as “Galway Girl” is steady in third place. The song, which serves as the most recent proper single off of the songwriter’s full-length Divide (which remains at No. 1 on the albums tally), has made it as high as No. 2, but it hasn’t been able to break through yet, held back most often by “Shape Of You.”
After beginning at the peak, Harry Styles’ first offering as a solo act, “Sign Of The Times,” only ended up ruling for one week. This time around, the rocky single is steady at No. 4, where it debuted in the U.S. Just behind the One Direction member is Drake with his More Life cut “Passionfruit,” which has quickly become a fan favorite from his new collection.
New to the top 10 this week is “Swalla,” the latest club-ready jam from pop star Jason Derulo. The song, which features verses from rappers Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign, bolts from No. 15 to No. 6, hitting the region for the first time. This is top 10 hit No. 12 for Derulo and No. 13 for Minaj, both of whom have become charting titans across the pond (as well as here in the States).
Teen pop heartthrob Shawn Mendes debuts his new song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” at No. 7 on the British singles ranking, giving him his fourth top 10 hit in the country. It’s not clear yet if the track is simply a gift to his fans, if it will be featured on a re-release of his most recent album Illuminate or even if it might be the first taste of a new full-length.
The final three slots inside the highest region on the ranking this frame are owned by Martin Jensen’s “Solo Dance” at No. 8, The Chainsmokers and Coldplay’s “Something Just Like This” at No. 9 and Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.” in last place.
