Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State has presented a proposed 2025 budget of N1,558,887,565,358 to the State House of Assembly for legislative scrutiny.
Tagged the “Budget of Hope, Sustainability, and Food Security,” the governor described the appropriation as exceptional, emphasizing its role in advancing the state’s socio-economic development.
“This budget is to reinforce the strides already achieved, which is why it is titled the ‘Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security.’
It reflects our deliberate focus on ensuring a sustainable and secure future for all Nigerlites,” Governor Bago stated during the presentation.
The proposed budget marks a 48.32% increase compared to the 2024 appropriation. It includes N196,335,361,443 (13%) for recurrent expenditure and N1,362,552,203,915 (87%) for capital expenditure.
Revenue Sources
Governor Bago outlined the anticipated revenue sources for the 2025 budget:
- Statutory allocation: N53,400,000,000
- Value Added Tax (VAT): N85,300,555,454
- Other FAAC receipts: N236,900,000,000
- Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): N63,360,000,000
- Other IGR: N186,368,241,948
- Capital receipts: N933,558,767,956 (comprising N493,496,681,728 in loans and N440,062,086,228 in grants).
Strategic Alignment
The governor noted that the proposed budget aligns with the Economic and Fiscal Update (EFU), Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and Budget Statement (BPS) for 2025–2027, approved by the government.
Legislative Response
In response, the Speaker of the House, Barrister Sarkindaji, praised the governor for his administration’s achievements in utilizing funds judiciously and improving the lives of citizens.
“The Assembly is committed to thoroughly scrutinizing and ensuring the swift passage of the appropriation bill for the benefit of Niger State residents,” the Speaker assured.
The proposed budget reflects the administration’s priorities in sustainability, food security, and socio-economic development as it aims to propel the state forward in 2025.
