The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Ebenezer Shawulu Danmaman, has been urged to investigate the ongoing violent clashes and destruction of farmlands in Washi community of Lavun Local Government Area of the state.
Residents of Washi community made this call in a petition submitted by a Minna-based legal practitioner, Ibrahim Angulu, to Danmaman, which was made available to journalists on Saturday.
Angulu expressed concern over the destruction of valuable properties, farmland, and fish ponds belonging to Washi residents by individuals from Kashikoko community, also in Lavun LGA.
The lawyer explained that the two communities have been embroiled in a dispute over farmland, resulting in a breakdown of law and order.
The petition highlighted that the people of Kashikoko have repeatedly attacked Washi residents, causing destruction to their properties.
The petition stated: “They (Kashikoko people) also armed themselves with machetes, cutlasses, dane guns, sticks, and carted away over eighty (80) bags of harvested paddy rice together with two pumping machines, five bags of fertilizer, four inches pumping machines, and valuable items worth N10 million.
“The attack claimed the life of Adam Zabokun, and six suspects were arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Niger State Police Command.
“Three of the arrested suspects were later released, while three others were charged to court, and many others are still on the run.”
Angulu urged the Niger CP and other security agencies in the state to protect Washi residents from further attacks by individuals from Kashikoko community.
