Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has repatriated 7,000 illegal immigrants from January to date, Mr David Parradang, Comptroller-General of the service said on Wednesday.
Parradang told journalists in an interview that the service was determined to deliver its statutory mandate of controlling movement of foreigners into the country.
According to him, aliens who tried to enter Nigeria through illegal routes around the borders, were apprehended and sent back.
NIS plans to conduct a house-to- house registration of foreigners in the country with a view to identifying those without valid documents and those engaging in criminal activities.
“We will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to identify and fish out all criminals and unauthorised aliens,’’ Parradang said.
He also assured Nigerians that NIS personnel at the borders would increase surveillance and assist port health officials to prevent carriers of the Ebola Virus Disease from entering the country.
