The Secretary-General, Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, has called on Nigerian politicians to avoid ‘do-or-die’ politics during the upcoming elections.
The NLC secretary-general urged politicians to ensure that national interest is paramount over self-ambition and interest.
Ozo-Eson said that politicians should realise that politics should not be a matter of life and death.
He advised them to present their programmes before the people and “allow the electorates, through the electoral process, make their choices”.
He also adviced that politicians should respect electorates’ choices.
“Politics should not be a ‘do-or-die’ matter. They should avoid ‘do-and-die’ politics. They should not plunge the country into unnecessary stress or chaos, either because they have won or they have not won.
“The thing is that all of such should ensure that there is free and fair election and the correct way to get the votes of Nigerians is to convince them about your programme. Once they do that, they should know when there is a contest; somebody will win and somebody will lose. So, it is not a ‘do-or-die’ matter”, Ozo-Eson said.
