The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Bauchi State has responded to a claim that all NNPP executive members in the state are dumping the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was attributed to Senator Halliru Dauda Jika, the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.
The statement was purportedly made by Jika after he defected to the APC last week.
As of the writing of this article, the cause of his defection was unknown.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday in Bauchi, however, NNPP Publicity Secretary Ahmed Aminu refuted Jika’s claim that party chairman Shehu Sani and other party chieftains have defected to the APC.
He assured the people that the Bauchi NNPP was unharmed and that the implication was a ploy to bury the truth.
“The NNPP, Bauchi State chapter, wishes to draw the general public’s attention to the recent proclamations made by our gubernatorial candidate on 26th September 2023, at the National Headquarters, Abuja,” he said.
This report was false and did not reflect the actual situation on the ground. Perhaps he meant to say “a few members have decided to join the gubernatorial candidate,” but he emphasized that “the party structure at all levels remains intact, with our serving member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.”
Aminu continued, “We, however, wish to affirm our membership, support, and loyalty to our great party, NNPP, including its leadership as well as the leader of the party, His Excellency, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”
He continued, “We also commit to work diligently to secure the success of our great party. We are saddened by the departure of those who have contributed to the success of our party and we send our best wishes to them in their future endeavors.
Aminu emphasized the collective nature of the organization, adding, “The announcement made by some members cannot be taken as a unanimous decision as the great majority have decided to remain in the party.”
