In a recent address at the meeting of NYSC Management with select Corps Producing Institutions in Africa, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Scheme to thwarting the participation of unqualified individuals in National Service.
Highlighting the core objectives of the NYSC program, Ahmed underscored its role in reshaping Nigerian youths for national unity and development. The program aims to instill values such as discipline, honesty, probity, accountability, hard work, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
Speaking on the challenges faced in the mobilization of foreign-trained graduates, Ahmed expressed concerns about the compromise of standards by some educational institutions.
He noted that, instead of nurturing world-class graduates in both character and learning, some school owners prioritize shortcuts for financial gains, resulting in the production of graduates with conflicting attributes.
Ahmed announced a strategic shift, revealing plans to extend the collection of the masterlist of graduates to schools in Niger Republic, Cameroon, Ghana, and Uganda, encompassing approximately 20% of graduates from the African continent.
This expansion, scheduled to commence from the 2024 Batch ‘A’ service year, aims to address vulnerabilities related to the fabrication of academic and travel documents.
The Director General urged vigilance in scrutinizing countries identified with a high susceptibility to the forgery of academic and travel credentials. The move signifies a proactive approach by the NYSC to uphold the integrity of the National Service and ensure that participating individuals meet the required qualifications.
