Former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, has lauded Governor Siminilayi Fubara for his courage in preventing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from turning Rivers State into his personal estate.
Odili made the remark during a Christmas Ballad event organized by his family in honor of Governor Fubara and his family.
He praised Fubara’s fortitude in standing against what he described as an unnecessary and fierce political battle initiated by Wike to capture the state.

“Governor Fubara demonstrated remarkable courage in confronting and halting the quest by one man to capture the state as a private estate,” Odili said.
“He steadied governance, emancipated Rivers people, and restored the happiness of civil servants and residents as it was before I left office in 2007.”
Reflecting on the political crisis that erupted in October 2023, Odili credited Fubara’s leadership qualities for overcoming the challenges and maintaining stability in Rivers State.
In response, Governor Fubara attributed his triumph to divine intervention, describing God as the “Ultimate Liberator” who ensured the state emerged victorious over political turmoil.
“God proved Himself worthy by ensuring total triumph over the political crisis and those behind it,” Fubara said.
“With the support of Rivers people, I stopped seeing the crisis as a problem but as a necessary enabler for governance.”
Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support, which he said has been his source of strength.
He vowed to continue prioritizing good governance and delivering progress for the state.
“Every day, I draw strength from the true Rivers people who stand by me. With God on our side, victory is assured,” he added.
Looking ahead, the governor promised a prosperous 2025, assuring citizens of his administration’s determination to achieve remarkable progress in the years to come.
He highlighted the joy and excitement experienced during the recent Christmas celebrations as a sign of brighter days ahead.
Fubara also commended well-meaning Rivers leaders for standing on the right side of history, resisting pressures to succumb to tyranny and oppression, and pledged to uphold their trust by continuing to do what is right for the state.
