The Ogun State House of Assembly, perplexed by the repeated attacks on communities by landgrabbers, has taken measures to end the epidemic.
The State House of Assembly has announced plans to revise the 2016 State Anti-Land Grabbing Law.
Legislators committed to making this happen by announcing plans to convene a forum for interested parties to discuss the pending revision of “The Prohibition of Forcible Occupation of Landed Properties Law 2016.”
The Assembly would be better positioned to deal with “the rampant cases of land grabbing” that have been reported in the state if it conducted this review.
On Thursday, during a plenary session held at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta, Speaker Olakunle Oluomo delivered this announcement in response to pleas by several MPs.
The Speaker of the House strongly criticized the recent “life-threatening and violent conduct of landgrabbers” in the state.
He explained that the change was made to better implement the law and take into account the varying viewpoints of those involved in the relevant industry.
Oluomo praised the Ogun State Surveyor General for creating a taskforce aimed at enforcing the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, and he affirmed that the Ogun 10th Assembly would continue to work with other government agencies and relevant professional groups to swiftly amend the law.
