The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration and synergy between the government and organized labour within ministries, extra-ministerial departments, and agencies (MDAs).
This partnership aims to optimize performance and effectively deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.
Dr. Comfort Adeosun, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare (SWO) at OHCSF, made this call during the 4th Permanent Secretary’s Quarterly Forum with Leaders of the Joint Union across MDAs on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
Dr. Adeosun highlighted that the forum serves as a platform to enhance synergy and foster a harmonious working relationship between the unions and the government, ultimately leading to improved service delivery.
She emphasized that the forum also aims to educate participants on government initiatives related to the welfare of public servants and create a conducive environment for the implementation of employee-friendly policies that enhance the well-being of workers.
Acknowledging that the forum had been on hold since 2019 due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr. Adeosun stressed the importance of reviving the meetings.
She noted that the forum plays a crucial role in resolving labor-related conflicts through dialogue and collective bargaining, thereby promoting industrial peace and harmony.
Dr. Adeosun expressed appreciation to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF) for her commitment to the welfare of civil servants and her directive to revive and sustain the forum.
She assured stakeholders of the OHCSF’s commitment to maintaining the forum as a platform for enhancing synergy and cohesion within the public service.
In his remarks, Mr. Dominic Chibueze Nwachukwu, the Acting Director of Employee and Industrial Relations, emphasized the government’s reliance on organized labor as a critical partner in nation-building, highlighting the indispensable role of cooperation between the two entities for effective governance.
The OHCSF reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare of workers and strengthening their capacity to fulfill their mandates, emphasizing the importance of informed communication between the government and its workforce for effective policy implementation.
