Eric Okaka (APC, Owan East) and Osamwonyi Atu (APC, Orhionmwo) were elected House Minority Leader and House Minority Whip, respectively, by the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday.
On June 20th, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku informed the assembly that she had received letters from the PDP, the APC, and the LP nominating individuals for the Principal Officers Council (POC), as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Agbebaku called on the newly formed POC and all other legislators to serve the interests of their communities and the state as a whole.
The House also revealed the members of its different standing committees during Monday’s plenary session.
In addition to the Speaker, Marie Edekor, the Deputy Speaker, would be in charge of the Tenders Board.
In the meantime, the House passed a resolution urging government agencies to restore eroded sections of the Auchi-Ayogwiri-Agenebode route as soon as possible.
After a motion under matters of urgent public interest was made by Kingsley Ugabi (APC, Etsako East), the resolution was passed.
Ugabi spoke about the hardships drivers face on the damaged stretch of road and said that people must now find other ways to get where they need to go.
During the debate, several legislators echoed Ugabi’s plea for the appropriate government agencies to quickly repair the road.
