In a significant political shift, over 200 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Guni ward in Munya local government area defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.
Despite prevailing security challenges, the defectors were welcomed into the APC by the state commissioner for Land and Survey, Maurice Bello Magaji, alongside local government party chieftains.
Among the new APC members were the Munya LG PDP Chairman, popularly known as Osama, ward party executives from Guni, and former House of Representatives member for Munya/Shiroro/Rafi federal constituency, Abdullahi Mohammed Ricco.
Also joining were former state House of Assembly member John Bahago and his supporters.
This mass defection follows a similar event three weeks ago, where approximately 150 PDP members, including women and youths, switched their allegiance to the APC in Gulu Vatsa community in Lapai local government area.
Commissioner Maurice Magaji commended the defectors for their decision, assuring them that the APC administration under Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago is dedicated to realizing the “New Niger agenda.”
He pledged to include them in all government policies and programs and sought their continued loyalty to the party and the government.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Abdullahi Mohammed Ricco expressed their confidence in Governor Bago’s genuine intentions to transform the state, stating, “What he needs is the support and prayers of all sons and daughters of the state.”
